Micki Nevett

This has been a really tough week. My good friend Micki Nevett, Westmere Elementary librarian, died on Monday. She was my professor for the administration of school library media programs- she was the kindest and smartest teacher. Here is the news from her school http://www.guilderlandschools.org/westmere/Westhome.htm

So I'm freaking out- Micki was the best librarian EVER. She was so awesome. I always told her she was my librarian-fairy-godmother- I call her my librarymom too :)

I don't know what to do without her!

I am librarymomless :(

I may at some juncture accept applications for a new librarymom, I suppose- though no one can replace Micki. I'm a good librarykid- I give cookies and knitted goods.

I miss my Micki :(

Here are some lyrics to Sister Winter by Sufjan Stevens:

Oh my friends I've

Begun to worry right

Where I should be grateful

I should be satisfied

Oh my heart I

Would clap and dance in place

With my friends I have so

Much pleasure to embrace

But my heart is

Returned to sister winter

So I'm browsing around online and come upon your blog. And now I see that you are engaged to be married and you lost your librarymom all within the space of a month. You are on a roller-coaster. Up! Down! All around.
Micki's death has been hard. But it is not the first time I have lost a colleague. I still remember when Mark Cornell, music teacher at Colonie HS was killed by a drunk driver. I take these things really hard. It's not like you're family and it's not like you're personal friends. So you're supposed to just go back to work. But then you realize that the people you work with ARE your friends. And you miss them in the same way as family.
I know it hurts.
Congratulations on your engagement. Micki would say - "Life goes on!"
